       Fluororesins (PTFE, PFA, FEP, PVDF, ETFE, etc.) are chemically resistant, weather resistant, and have low friction, but they have problems such as thermal decomposition toxicity, creep, and narrow processing windows. There are clear requirements for selection, processing, working conditions, storage, and disposal.
1、 Temperature control (important)
1. Strictly adhere to the continuous use temperature of materials and strictly prohibit long-term over temperature operation; PTFE/PFA will gradually undergo thermal decomposition at 260 ℃ for a long time, and above 300 ℃, high temperatures will release toxic and corrosive gases such as hydrogen fluoride and perfluoroisobutylene, which can cause polymer smoke and dust heat, leading to flu like symptoms such as fever and cough, and seriously damaging the respiratory tract.
2. Proper temperature control during processing (injection molding, extrusion, sintering, thermoforming) to prevent local overheating and decomposition; The processing station must be equipped with local exhaust ventilation devices.
When a fire occurs, although fluororesin is difficult to ignite, it will release highly toxic smoke when heated at high temperatures. Personnel should avoid the smoke area and not directly inhale the smoke.
4. Cigarettes contaminated with fluororesin dust are strictly prohibited from ignition, as burning can produce toxic smoke. Smoking is prohibited in the processing area.
2、 Selection of working conditions and structural design
1. Creep problem: Fluororesin is prone to creep cold flow deformation under continuous load, which will be exacerbated in high temperature environments. When used as a gasket or seal, it cannot be screwed all at once and needs to be tightened regularly; In terms of design, anti creep structural compensation should be done, and it is not enough to rely solely on fluororesin to withstand high-pressure compression force.
2. The coefficient of thermal expansion is large, and there is a significant difference in thermal expansion compared to metals. Equipment pipelines and sealing structures should reserve expansion and contraction allowances to avoid cracking and leakage under temperature differences.
Although it is resistant to the vast majority of acidic and alkaline solvents, some high-temperature strong alkalis and strong molten alkali metals can corrode fluororesins, and the selection needs to check the medium conditions.
4. The radiation resistance is limited, and degradation cross-linking occurs in strong radiation environments, making it unsuitable for long-term use in strong radiation conditions.
3、 Processing and operational safety
1. Powder and particle processing and polishing can generate dust. Wear dust-proof protective equipment, maintain ventilation, and avoid inhaling dust.
2. The high temperature of the melted fluororesin can cause serious burns. Wear heat-resistant gloves and goggles during operation.
3. Fluororesin itself has poor adhesion. When coating or bonding, the substrate must be roughened and etched on the surface, otherwise it is easy to peel off.
4. For the lotion fluororesin coating, the spraying operation shall be conducted in the special spraying room, and the exhaust protection shall be done to prevent the droplets from contacting the skin and mucous membrane.
4、 Storage requirements
1. The raw materials should be sealed and stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperature baking, and kept away from heat and fire sources.
2. Powder and particles should be well moisture-proof to prevent moisture from clumping and affecting subsequent processing.
3. Two component fluororesin coating should be used up within the activation period after proportioning, and should not be stored for a long time. The remaining materials should not be returned to the original packaging bucket.
5、 Disposal taboos
1. It is strictly prohibited to self burn fluororesin waste, which generates a large amount of toxic fluorine-containing smoke and is classified as hazardous waste. It should be disposed of by qualified units in accordance with solid waste standards.
2. The waste powder and scraps generated during processing shall be collected centrally and shall not be discarded at will.
