       Calcium bromide is an inorganic bromide salt that is highly deliquescent. It is available in anhydrous, dihydrate, and 52% liquid form. Its core characteristics include high-density aqueous solution, low freezing point, bromide ion source, and strong hygroscopicity. It is widely used in oil and gas chemical industry, chemical industry, refrigeration, environmental protection, material synthesis, and other fields.
1. Petroleum, oil and gas chemical industry
Used as solid free high-density saltwater: completion fluid, workover fluid, packer fluid, fracturing matching saltwater.

The density of calcium bromide aqueous solution can reach 1.70g/cm ³, without the need to add solid powder, which is used to balance the downhole formation pressure, prevent well surges and blowouts, and stabilize the wellbore wall; Low damage to oil and gas reservoirs, suitable for deep wells, high-pressure oil and gas wells, and offshore oil and gas operations.
2. Prevent the formation of natural gas hydrates underground and maintain liquid phase stability under low-temperature underground conditions.
3. It can be compounded with zinc chloride and zinc bromide to prepare working salt water of different densities.
2. Chemical synthesis (bromine source intermediate)
1. As a raw material for bromide ions, other bromide salts such as ammonium bromide, lithium bromide, and sodium bromide are prepared through double decomposition reactions.
2. Organic synthesis reaction, providing bromine source for the synthesis of some pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediates; High purity calcium bromide is used for chemical preparation.
3. Laboratory chemical reagents; Anhydrous calcium bromide can be used as a desiccant in some organic solvent systems (with strong hygroscopicity).
3. Refrigeration, Heat Exchange, and Chemical Engineering
1. Prepare industrial low-temperature frozen salt water, significantly reducing the freezing point of the aqueous solution. The eutectic system can be as low as -50 ℃, used for indirect cooling of chemical plants, process heat exchange circuits, and replacing some calcium chloride salt water.
2. The working fluid components of absorption refrigeration units are used in large-scale industrial refrigeration equipment.
Attention: Calcium bromide salt water has certain corrosiveness, and the system needs to be equipped with corrosion inhibitors.
4. Environmentally friendly flue gas treatment
Mercury removal from coal-fired power plant flue gas as a raw material for bromide ion addition; Adding bromide ions to the furnace/flue gas system to convert elemental mercury into easily removable mercury bromide, combined with dust removal and desulfurization devices to achieve mercury pollutant treatment, belongs to the chemical additive for flue gas mercury treatment.
5. Flame retardant and fire extinguishing agent chemical industry
1. Prepare bromine based inorganic flame retardant components for use in some electrical and rubber materials as inorganic bromine flame retardant fillers.
2. Raw material components of some dry powder fire extinguishing agents and liquid fire extinguishing agents.
6. Photography and Imaging Engineering
Used for manufacturing photographic emulsions and photosensitive paper, adjusting emulsion contrast, and serving as a source of bromide ions; The traditional film industry is using it, but now its usage is shrinking.
7. Water treatment industry
1. Some industrial circulating water systems, as raw materials for bromine based biocides, release bromine ions to achieve bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects.
2. Raw materials for oil and gas extraction wastewater treatment agents.
8. Other extended industries
1. Pharmaceutical and chemical industry: historically used for sedative preparations, modern medicine has reduced direct use and is more commonly used as raw materials for some veterinary drugs and pharmaceutical intermediates.
2. New battery materials: Bromine salt electrolyte raw materials used as electrolytes for calcium ion batteries in the scientific research field belong to an emerging direction.
