What is the function of anhydrous potassium fluoride

Anhydrous potassium fluoride (KF, industrial grade/reagent grade) is a strong fluorinating agent, fluxing agent, complexing agent, catalyst, and does not contain crystalline water. Its activity is much higher than that of hydrated potassium fluoride, and its applications are concentrated in the fields of chemical engineering, metallurgy, electronics, glass, and anti-corrosion.
1、 Chemical organic synthesis (most commonly used)
1. Halogen substitution fluorination
Make nucleophilic fluorinating reagents, replace chlorine and bromine in organic compounds with fluorine, and produce fluorine-containing pharmaceuticals, pesticides, chemicals, and fluorine-containing intermediates.
2. Phase transfer catalysis and condensation reactions
As an alkaline fluoride catalyst, it catalyzes esterification, condensation, and elimination reactions with high reaction activity and few side reactions.
2、 Metallurgy and Metal Processing
1. Non ferrous metal flux
Used for smelting and refining aluminum, magnesium, and rare metals, reducing melting points, removing impurities, and desulfurization and oxidation.
2. Stainless steel/metal pickling and polishing
Formulated as acid pickling and passivation solution, used for rust removal, polishing, and surface passivation of stainless steel and alloys.
3. Welding and brazing additives
As a brazing flux, remove the oxide film on the metal surface and improve the wettability of the solder.
3、 Glass, enamel, and building materials industries
1. Glass etching and sanding
Used in conjunction with hydrofluoric acid system for glass sanding, etching patterns, and sanding of lamp glass.
2. Enamel ceramic opalescent agent, melting aid
Reduce the firing temperature, increase the whiteness and milky effect of the glaze surface.
4、 Electronics and Electroplating Industry
1. Cleaning and etching of electronic components
Etching, cleaning, and removal of oxide layers on the surfaces of semiconductors, wafers, and quartz chips.
2. Electroplating complexing agent
As a chelating additive in electroplating solution, it stabilizes the coating and refines the crystallization.

Wood anti-corrosion and pest control: use with anti-corrosion agents
Analytical reagents: precipitation and masking of metal ions in chemical analysis
