What are the characteristics of sodium fluoroborate
info:www.hongjiafu.net  |  Release time:2026-03-11
Sodium fluoroborate, belonging to inorganic fluoroborate chemical raw materials, is the sodium salt of fluoroborate, and its core is composed of stable tetrafluoroborate complex ions. It has moderate stability, excellent water solubility, and unique fluorine chelating properties. It has a regular appearance and controllable properties at room temperature, and can release effective components in a targeted manner under high temperature and special acid-base conditions. At the same time, it has exclusive industrial adaptability and strict safety control requirements. It is widely used in electroplating, welding, textile, metal refining, organic synthesis and other fields. It is a specialized fluorine based chemical additive with distinct performance characteristics and clear application scenarios. It presents core characteristics such as stable physical properties, controllable chemical properties, excellent solubility, strong industrial practicality, and strict safety requirements.
1、 Regular physical properties and distinct sensory characteristics
Sodium fluoroborate appears as white crystals, crystalline powders, or granules. In an anhydrous state, it is a transparent right angled prism with a regular crystal shape and no obvious odor. It is visually clean and easy to identify, making it convenient for production, packaging, and on-site use. Its physical parameters are stable, with a density of about 2.47g/mL at 25 ℃ and a melting point of about 384 ℃ (accompanied by decomposition). It has a high specific gravity and can naturally settle in aqueous solutions. Its physical form is convenient for storage, transportation, and quantitative feeding, and is suitable for industrial batch use.
2、 Mild chemical properties and controllable stability
The chemical stability of this product presents typical characteristics of "room temperature stability and condition triggered decomposition". It is stable in a room temperature and dry environment, not easily oxidized or reduced, and will not spontaneously undergo chemical reactions. Compared with ordinary fluorides, it has no strong corrosiveness of free fluoride ions and does not corrode glass in a completely dry state, greatly reducing its corrosiveness to storage containers and production equipment. But under specific conditions, it can be directionally decomposed: it begins to decompose when the temperature reaches 384 ℃, and completely decomposes into sodium fluoride and boron trifluoride gas when it exceeds 500 ℃; When encountering strong acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid) or strong alkaline environments, it will gradually decompose and release corresponding components. This controllable decomposition characteristic enables it to correctly adapt to the process requirements of welding, electroplating, organic synthesis, and other scenarios, while maintaining storage stability and durability.
3、 Excellent solubility and strong solvent selectivity
Sodium fluoroborate has outstanding solubility characteristics and good water solubility. Its solubility in water is about 54.8g/100mL at 20 ℃ and up to 108g/100mL at 26 ℃. The solubility significantly increases with temperature, forming a colorless and transparent solution after dissolution. The aqueous solution is weakly acidic (pH value about 4-5) and can be directly adapted to industrial processes of aqueous systems. The solvent selectivity is clear, soluble in polar organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, and insoluble in non-polar solvents such as ether and benzene, making it easy to choose suitable solvents according to different process systems. At the same time, the ionization of ions in the aqueous solution is complete, which can fully exert the functions of fluoride complexation, ion conduction, etc., ensuring the effectiveness of use.
4、 Moderate moisture absorption, not easily deliquescent or clumping
Sodium fluoroborate has a certain hygroscopicity and can absorb moisture when exposed to humid air. However, its hygroscopicity is lower than that of similar fluorides such as sodium fluoride, and it is not easily deliquescent or liquefied. Even if it absorbs moisture and clumps, it can quickly dissolve in water without affecting its core performance. This feature significantly reduces the risk of deterioration during storage and use, and only requires regular sealing and moisture-proof treatment to maintain stable product performance for a long time. Compared with other chemical products, the storage, transportation, and use threshold is lower, making it more suitable for industrial long-term storage and intermittent use.
5、 Strong adaptability to industrial applications and outstanding targeted functionality
Relying on its unique chemical structure and physicochemical properties, sodium fluoroborate has strong adaptability to industrial scenarios, and its functional characteristics correctly meet the needs of specific fields. In the electroplating process, it can be used as a complexing agent to improve the uniformity and smoothness of the coating, and enhance the adhesion of the coating; In the field of welding, it is used as a flux component to remove oxide films on metal surfaces, improve welding smoothness and weld quality; In the textile industry, it is used for resin finishing to optimize fabric performance; In metal refining and organic synthesis, it acts as a fluorine source and catalyst, playing a directional reaction role. Its components are pure, with low impurity content, and there are few by-products during industrial use, which will not cause pollution to the finished products of the process, balancing functionality and practicality.
6、 Clear safety attributes and strict requirements for storage and transportation use
Sodium fluoroborate belongs to Class 6.1 toxic substances and has certain toxicity. The allowable concentration in the air is 2.5mg/m ³, and it is a key controlled chemical product, which is its core safety feature. Proper protection should be taken during use to avoid direct contact and inhalation of dust; Storage and transportation should be sealed, moisture-proof, and kept away from strong acids, alkalis, and high temperature environments. It is strictly prohibited to store and transport food and feed together. At the same time, it is necessary to follow the relevant operating procedures for hazardous chemicals, store, transport, and use in compliance with regulations, and prevent safety risks.
