Hypophosphorous Acid

Hypophosphoric acid, also known as hypophosphite, is a colorless oily liquid or hygroscopic crystal, and is an inorganic acid. This product is a 50% aqueous solution. Density 1.493g/cm3. Melting point 26.5 ℃. Easy to dissolve in hot water, ethanol, and ether. Dissolve in cold water. When heated to 130 ℃, it decomposes into orthophosphate and phosphine (highly toxic). It is a strong reducing agent.
